Worcester Cathedral
Saturday 28 April 2012 sees the culmination of Sing UK's third singing project involving city and county secondary schools, colleges and the University. Following the tremendous success of The Armed Man in 2010, Mozart's Requiem and Bob Chilcott's Jubilate in April 2011, the music takes on a French flavour:
Poulenc's effervescent Gloria
Gounod's glorious St Cecilia Mass
Gounod's haunting Mors et Vita
Approximately 200 young singers will prepare this wonderful music and come together in rehearsals before joining the English Symphony Orchestra, soloists Rachel Nicholls (soprano), James Edwards (tenor) and Alexander Robin Baker (bass), all under the direction of Malcolm Goldring, Sing UK's Artistic Director.
As an introduction to the music, an informal workshop will be held in St Andrew's Methodist Church, Worcester on Saturday 28 January (from 10.30 - 12.30). All singers must attend one of two massed rehearsals - on either Saturday 17 March 2012 (10.00 - 13.00) or Saturday 21 April 2012 (14.00 - 17.00): each is in St Andrew's Church. On the day of the concert (Saturday 28 April 2012) there are compulsory rehearsals in the morning and afternoon before the evening performance.
Schools have already been notified of this event, but if you would like further information please contact Anne Renshaw E: anne@singuk.org
